Private lessons are offered on a weekly basis in 30, 45, and 60 minute sessions. The individual lesson format allows Ms. Modell to carefully guide and pace lessons to best fit a student's needs. Appropriate lesson lengths for each student is determined at a preliminary interview.
Students study a wide range of works in the Classical repertoire, scales, and etudes to build technique and dexterity. Suitable music and method books are recommended on a case-by-case basis and are tailored for each student's unique needs and learning styles; Ms. Modell does not adhere to a "one size fits all" method book.
In addition to playing music, all students study the fundamentals of music theory and music history as part of a well-rounded music education. Extremely motivated students may elect to participate in the Music Teacher's Association of California Certificate of Merit program, which is a comprehensive evaluation process including elements of performance, music theory, and ear training.
Lesson tuition is paid on a monthly basis and is due at the first lesson of each month. Late tuition payments are subject to a $5 per-week late fee. Tuition rates are adjusted yearly; call for current prices.
Makeup Lesson & Cancellation Policy
Lessons are scheduled regularly to optimize a student's progress; therefore, missing lessons should be avoided. Please understand that you are paying not only for the material covered in the lesson, but primarily for the time slot in my teaching schedule. Please do not schedule doctor's appointments or other activities during normal lesson times. In the event of an extenuating circumstance, students/parents must notify the teacher of a lesson cancellation a minimum of 24 hours prior to lesson time. If at least 24 hours notice is given, then a makeup lesson will be scheduled at the earliest possible date and if the teacher has time available. Make-ups are not guaranteed, and they must occur within one week of the missed lesson. If less than 24 hours notice is given, even in the event of unexpected illness, students will be charged for the scheduled lesson and no makeup lesson will be given. There are no exceptions to this policy; I must be fair to everyone.
If at least 24 hours’ notice of cancellation is given, students are allowed up to three make-up lessons each Studio Year (September-August). You may utilize these four make-up lessons for any vacation days, sick days, or personal necessity days you may wish to take in addition to the official Studio Closure dates. I will do my best to offer a make-up lesson at the earliest possible time. Any cancellations in excess of the three allowable make-ups are not credited or refunded.
